How to Make Money Online: Create Your Personal Brand

Whether you are a freelancer, blogger, webmaster, web merchant, mechanical turker, or some other aspiring web worker, you must demonstrate your value to the internet and the people who use it. It's all about eyeballs and getting users to view your content or use your products or services. To accomplish this, you must create your niche, or in other words, your own personal brand that is unique to you and offers something to users that others don't. Doing this is a complex undertaking.

Setting yourself apart is crucial for creating a unique and desirable brand. Doing this involves much more than just creating your logo or a flashy website. It's about carving out your niche and making it obvious why your approach is different and more beneficial than the next guy, or gal. It's important to remember that you cannot just build it and they will come. You must build something better for people to leave what they are currently using to use your website.

On that note, if what you're doing online doesn't create net benefits to your target user, they simply won't come back and will not use your service and you won't be very successful. I know what I'm saying here is a bit vague so let me get more specific.

To start building your personal brand you want to research your direct competition extensively. First, determine how much competition there is. Is your niche already too saturated? Are there opportunities to offer something different, or better than your competion? Determine what needs similar content or sites are serving. Are they doing it well? Are they under serving the community and if so, how? Find the under served areas of your niche and serve them!

If you're a freelancer this means offering services not offered by your competition or better customer service. If you're a blogger this means exploiting the weak areas of information in your chosen topic and creating a brand. For instance, if you're writing about cats, how is your topic different and honestly ask yourself or an impartial third party if you or they would visit your website and more importantly, come back again and again? If you say no, stop. Rethink, reorganize, redo what you were doing. This retooling of your approach to find what draws visitors back is necessary because repeat users are the key to a successful web business. If you need an example of a company that does this well look no further than Facebook.

Above all, be honest with yourself, don't let your pride get in the way! Believe me, I've done this far too many times and it never works out. If what you're doing isn't working, change, because the key to creating your personal brand is having the humility to admit when you're wrong and change when you need to.

Best of luck to all of you and here's hoping your future online income is great and your difficulties are small.

Thanks for reading!

$14.40 income per hour from Requester: Classify AdImages!

This is one by the requester "ClassifyAdImages"
You are classifying advertisements, it pays $0.04 per hit and takes about 10 seconds per hit to complete. If you can move at 10 sec per hit you could potentially make $14.40 per hour!

Calculation: 10 sec per hit = 360 hits per hour X 0.04 = $14.40 dollars of income in 1 hour

There are currently 1365 (as of 9:53AM CST 10/23/2011) Hits on Amazon Mechanical Turk (mturk) which amounts to $54.60. This is also what we call a regular requester. They are routinely posting hits and if you miss out on some keep checking because they should be back.

WARNING: This hit seems very simple and it is, however if you rush too fast and provide hasty answers this requester is VERY quick to reject your work. I usually am very careful to submit quality answers, but even I rushed a bit too much on this and got about 100 of my 400 hits completed rejected. Just want to give you a heads up because that can really hurt your approval rate.

As with most hits, if you are unfamiliar with the requester and unsure of how they will view the quality of your work, it's good to do 5 sample hits and see how many they reject. My rule of thumb is, if they reject any of those 5, and you tried your best, do NOT do any more. Sometimes you get super picky requesters that are not happy with anyone's work. Those requesters on Amazon Mechanical Turk (murk) are a waste of your time when you work at home on mturk!

Here's a sample of the hit from Classify AdImages:

Please enter the name of the product being advertised

***THE SHOW A GRAPHIC OF AN AD HERE***

Please enter the name of the product being advertised
X IF YOU CAN YOU ENTER A NAME HERE, AND SELECT A COMMON NAME IF IT'S IN THE DATABASE IF NOT YOU SELECT AN APPROPRIATE NEW NAME

X This is not an ad
X The image failed to load
X The Product or Company Name is not known
X Contains adult content

Suggestions to Determine Product-Name:

The goal is to identify the (most likely) party that paid for this advertisement.

If not an ad, or the ad shows adult-content: Click on the appropriate skip-reason.
If product(s) from sponsor(s)/promoter(s) (i.e., not from producer/distributor/seller/co-brander): Enter the (most-prominent) sponsor-name. For example:
pick Groupon from its ad promoting Tony's Pizza.
pick Starburst from its ad sponsoring Miley's Concert.
If a single product advertised by its producer/distributor/seller/co-brander (i.e., not by sponsor/promoter): Enter the most specific product-name. For example:
pick most-specific product: pick Ford Mustang over Ford.
For single-product ad, ignore producer/distributor/seller/co-brander:
Ignore seller/distributor: pick Dell Latitude in a Best Buy ad for it.
Ignore co-brander: pick Verizon Wireless from its ad with a Samsung phone in it.
Ignore co-brander: pick Zynga Online Game in its ad with link to Facebook.
Ignore co-brander: pick Dell Latitude in its ad with Microsoft Windows and/or Intel logo.
If multiple products from a distributor/seller/producer: Enter the distributor/seller/producer name. (e.g., pick Walmart from its ad showing TVs and phones and clothes.)
Using autocompletion in the entry-form, first try to find (and then select) an existing product-name.
If autocompletion did not provide a matching product-name, then enter the new product-name.
Go to the help-page (or, popup) for more details and examples.

WorldsOyster! - amazon mturk money maker

Ok, I've been sucessful on Amazon mechanical Turk (Mturk) lately! I found some hits worth doing, in fact I've made about $150 in the last month. My most profitable hit in that time has been from WorldsOyster (just search for that name to find their HITS). It's not much but it only takes about 5 minutes per hit, and if you can keep a steady pace of submissions that's $7.2 per hour! (you might be able to do it faster) Either way that's not a bad rate for a hit, there's 2306 (Worth $1383) HITS last time I checked but you can't be a newbie, the Minimum Qualifications are: Total approved HITs is greater than 5000, HIT approval rate (%) is not less than 98. If you meet those then have at it and make some money!

In my experience WorldsOyster pays quickly (within hours) and doesn't reject for stupid reasons, if you do good work you will get paid, made approx $50 just last week on this very hit!

Here's an example of their hit:
-------------------------------

Write a brief and informative description about the local business shown below:

Business Name: R.A.G. Handyman Services

Business Website: http://www.raghandyman.com/

Business Address: 2615 Grants Pkwy, Florissant, Mo 63031, Usa

Instructions:

Must be approximately 60 to 100 words in length.
Must have proper spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
Avoid filler phrases like. "Truth be told", "When all is said and done", or "These days."
You may want to include information such as: How long they've been in business; Specialty Services offered; Guarantees or Warranties; Any other related information about their facilities or techniques. If they have a special focus on customer service or service quality that may also be worth mentioning.
MOST IMPORTANTLY: You must not copy or plagiarize from any other sources. Your writing must be original and not directly copied from anywhere else, including the business's own website. If it is copied or plagiarized you will risk your hit being rejected.
